Our Expertise
The GEC has six main target areas: Waste, Energy, Transportation, Materials, Food, and Advertising. We conduct research in each of these areas to determine best practices and pass on this information when we consult with groups. In general, we promote composting at events, buying local and organic food, reusing materials, using online and creative advertising, encouraging public transportation for off campus events, and much more! Student Union has also allocated money to us for the Green Rebate Fund which we use to help groups finance greener event practices.
The Process
Schedule a meeting
If you’re planning a campus event and want some advice on making it more sustainable, just contact us to schedule a free consultation! Or, be on the lookout for an email from one of our liaisons who may want to help.
Discuss your event
Next, we’ll meet with you in person to discuss the logistics of your event: what you’re already doing well, and what areas you can improve. Using this information, we can develop a personalized recommendation for your event.
A green proposal
After we send you our final sustainability recommendation, try to keep our advice in mind as you continue to plan your event. As always, reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
Your sustainable event
On the big day, implement your sustainability measures and enjoy the fact that you’re helping to make our campus a greener place. Of course, you’re welcome to let your attendees know that you’ve worked with the GEC.
We’d love your feedback
Let us know how we did! Leaving us some feedback will help us improve on our own recommendation process so we can better help you next time you have an event.
